2026 Xpeng G6 Undercuts Tesla Model Y From $51,800 in Australia
The refreshed G6 arrives with four variants, up to 525km range, and a price tag that puts pressure on the competition.

If you've been watching the electric SUV market and waiting for prices to come down, the updated 2026 Xpeng G6 is worth a serious look. Orders are open now across Australia, with the refreshed mid-size SUV starting at $51,800 before on-road costs — $3000 less than the outgoing model and well below the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Zeekr 7X.
Showroom arrivals are expected later in July 2026.

What You Get for the Money
The lineup has grown from two variants to four, and the entry-level G6 RWD Standard Range at $51,800 (before on-roads) is the one that sets the tone. It puts out 185kW and 440Nm from a rear-mounted electric motor, covers 0–100km/h in 6.94 seconds, and offers up to 480km of WLTP range from a 68.5kWh LFP battery. For Perth metro driving — or a run down to Margaret River and back — that's a comfortable buffer.
Step up to the RWD Long Range at $56,800 and you get a larger 80.8kWh battery, 525km of WLTP range, and Xpeng's '5C' fast charging that can top up from 10 to 80 per cent in around 12 minutes at up to 451kW. That charging speed matters if you're doing the long haul between Perth and regional WA — think Albany, Geraldton, or Kalgoorlie — where charging stops need to be short and reliable.
All variants also come with vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability up to 6kW, handy for powering gear on a campsite or worksite.
Standard kit across the range is generous: panoramic roof, Nappa leather seats with heating, ventilation and massage, an 18-speaker sound system, 15.6-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a surround-view camera. Safety runs to seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane centring, automatic lane change and automatic parking assist — all backed by Nvidia Orin-X processing in the XPILOT driver assistance suite.

Performance Variants for Those Who Want More
Two AWD Performance models round out the range. The AWD Performance is priced at $63,800 before on-road costs, with the AWD Performance Black Edition sitting at $66,800. Both use a 358kW/660Nm dual-motor setup and hit 100km/h in 4.15 seconds, while still delivering up to 510km of WLTP range on 20-inch alloys.
The Black Edition is exactly what it sounds like — black paint, black wheels, black brake calipers, black badging and a smoked front bumper light strip. If that aesthetic appeals, it's available only in that one colour combination.

How It Stacks Up Against the Competition
At $51,800 before on-roads, the G6 Standard Range undercuts the BYD Sealion 7 ($54,990), Zeekr 7X ($57,900) and Tesla Model Y ($58,900) at their respective entry points. WA buyers will need to factor in registration, CTP and stamp duty on top of that — but the starting gap is real and meaningful.
Xpeng recently moved to direct factory distribution in Australia, which has added some complexity — the brand is currently in a Federal Court dispute with its former distributor TrueEV. That's worth keeping in mind when thinking about service support and long-term ownership, though the brand now appears in official VFACTS sales data for the first time.
If the price point and range figures align with how you use a car in WA, the G6 deserves a spot on your shortlist.
