860kW Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door EV: What WA Buyers Need to Know
Mercedes-AMG's all-electric GT 4-Door Coupe brings 860kW, 11-minute charging, and a simulated V8 soundtrack to Australia.

Mercedes-AMG has pulled the cover off its most extreme production car yet — and it runs on electricity. The all-new 2027 AMG GT 4-Door Coupe ditches the twin-turbo V8 entirely in favour of a three-motor electric drivetrain producing up to 860kW and a frankly absurd 2000Nm during launch control. It's confirmed for Australia, though local timing and pricing are still to be announced.
For context, the outgoing AMG GT 4-Door started at $409,600 before options and on-road costs. Expect the electric version to land somewhere in that territory — which, once you factor in WA's stamp duty on luxury vehicles and registration costs, puts this firmly in the 'weekend splurge' category for most Perth buyers.
The Performance Numbers Are Borderline Ridiculous
The top-spec GT 63 variant covers 0–100km/h in 2.4 seconds and hits 200km/h in 6.8 seconds, on the way to a 300km/h top speed. That's not a typo. Three axial flux motors — a first for any production EV — deliver that output, with two motors at the rear and one up front. A continuous output of 530kW is available in regular driving, which is still more than most performance cars manage at full noise.
The 106kWh battery is cooled using technology borrowed directly from the AMG One hypercar and Mercedes-AMG's Formula One programme. Claimed WLTP range sits between 596km and 696km for the GT 63, which means Perth to Geraldton and back is comfortably within reach on a single charge — useful if you're one of those people who actually uses their super sedan for a road trip rather than just school pick-ups in Cottesloe.
Charging speed is where this car genuinely separates itself from the pack. The AMG GT 4-Door can accept up to 600kW of DC fast charging, with a claimed 10–80 per cent charge time of just 11 minutes given a capable charger. As WA's fast-charging network continues to expand along the coast and into regional corridors, that kind of speed starts to matter for buyers who venture beyond the metro area.
The GT 55 variant isn't exactly a consolation prize either — 600kW, 1800Nm peak, and 0–100km/h in 2.8 seconds, with range nudging up to 700km in WLTP testing.
Built for Driving, Not Just Posing
Mercedes-AMG hasn't just bolted a big battery into a liftback and called it a day. The GT 4-Door rides on a bespoke platform with active aerodynamics — including underbody venturi flow plates, an active rear diffuser and spoiler — which AMG calls Aerokinetics. Rear-axle steering, active roll stabilisation, adjustable air suspension, and carbon-ceramic front brakes round out a chassis package designed to handle both a fast lap and a long straight.
Inside, the cabin pairs a 14-inch central touchscreen with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a second 14-inch screen for the passenger. Three rotary controllers on the console let you adjust traction, response and agility on the fly — handy if you're transitioning from Perth's stop-start traffic on Stirling Highway to something with more room to breathe on the way south to Margaret River.
For those who mourn the V8: AMG has included a simulated V8 soundtrack built from over 1600 sound files, designed to replicate the AMG GT R's 4.0-litre twin-turbo. Physical gear-change sensations are part of the package too, similar to Hyundai's e-Shift system in the Ioniq 5 N. It sounds gimmicky until you've actually driven one of those cars — it works better than it has any right to.
Rear seating is for two as standard, with an optional three-seat bench available. The panoramic roof features adjustable transparency per segment with AMG-branded lighting — the kind of detail that gets noticed at a Sunday morning coffee meet in Fremantle.
Australian allocation is confirmed. Pricing and timing are the outstanding questions, and given how quickly AMG models tend to sell here, getting your name on an expression-of-interest list early makes sense.
