Cupra Tindaya Electric SUV Confirmed: What WA Buyers Need to Know
Cupra's biggest EV yet is heading to production — here's what it means for Australian buyers.

Cupra has confirmed its striking Tindaya electric SUV concept will make it to production, with CEO Markus Haupt putting it plainly: "It looks fantastic — why should we not build the Tindaya?"
For WA buyers who've been watching Cupra's EV line-up grow, this is a significant development. The Tindaya would become the brand's largest vehicle to date and slot above the Tavascan in its local range.

What We Know About the Tindaya So Far
First shown as a concept in September 2025, the Tindaya is a mid-size SUV measuring 4.72 metres long — sharp creases, a sloping roofline, and the kind of aggressive stance Cupra does well. It rides on Volkswagen Group's new SSP platform, built from the ground up for electric vehicles and set to underpin a wave of future EVs across the VW Group stable.
Powertrains are still being finalised. Haupt has confirmed the Tindaya will use drivetrains already available within the VW Group, and earlier reports pointed to both fully-electric and range-extender options. That second option would be particularly relevant for WA drivers — if you're regularly making the run between Perth and regional centres like Bunbury, Albany, or Geraldton, a range-extender setup removes the charging anxiety that still holds some buyers back from committing to a pure EV.
"When the car hits the streets, we need to ensure that it has the right powertrains for our markets, for our customers," Haupt told AutoCar.

How It Stacks Up Against the Competition
The Tindaya will go head-to-head with the BMW iX3 and the incoming Volvo EX60 — both arriving in Australia later this year. That's a competitive space, with prestige buyers increasingly weighing up European EV options against each other.
Cupra's edge has always been value-for-money sportiness, and if they can bring the Tindaya in under the iX3's price point while offering comparable range and more visual flair, it'll be a compelling package for Perth buyers who want something that stands out on the freeway without the full German-prestige price tag.
The Tindaya would likely be Cupra's fourth fully-electric model on Australian roads, following the budget-focused Raval which is due to arrive locally next year.

Should WA Buyers Pay Attention?
Cupra Australia hasn't confirmed whether the Tindaya will make it here, and Haupt's timeline of "some years" means this isn't an imminent purchase decision. But given Cupra's growing commitment to the Australian market and the increasing appetite for mid-size EVs in WA — where fuel prices consistently run above the national average — it's a model worth tracking.
With WA's EV rebate scheme and the state's expanding fast-charger network along major highways, the timing of a range-extender or long-range electric mid-sizer could land well. Keep an eye on this one.
