MG S6 EV Arrives at $49,990: Is It the Right Buy for WA Drivers?
The MG S6 electric SUV lands in Australia with competitive pricing, 530km range, and specs that suit long WA drives.

Western Australian car buyers have a fresh option in the electric SUV segment — and it's priced to turn heads. The MG S6 has officially gone on sale in Australia, starting from $49,990 drive-away for the rear-wheel drive variant. Add $7,000 and you get the all-wheel drive version. That's a straightforward price structure, which WA buyers tend to appreciate.

With petrol prices in Perth regularly nudging past $2.00 per litre, the case for going electric is only getting stronger. The MG S6 sits in a crowded but compelling bracket — more than $10,000 cheaper than the Tesla Model Y, though the Geely EX5 and GAC Aion V do undercut it, starting in the low $40,000s. If pure price is your priority, those two are worth a look. But the S6 punches back with a solid feature set for the money.
What You Get Under the Bonnet
The RWD S6 runs a single electric motor producing 180kW, with a 0–100km/h time of 7.3 seconds — more than adequate for merging onto the Mitchell Freeway. The AWD steps that up to 266kW and a 5.1-second sprint, which is genuinely quick for a family SUV.
The 77kWh battery delivers up to 530km of range on a full charge. For context, that's comfortably enough to get from Perth to Geraldton and back without stopping — a useful benchmark for WA drivers who occasionally need to cover serious distances. DC fast charging takes the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 38 minutes, which is a reasonable pit stop on a longer run.

Interior, Features, and the Practical Stuff
Inside, the S6 is well-equipped for its price point. You get a 12.8-inch central touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch digital driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 50W wireless phone charger. A head-up display is available as an option if you want it.
Seating is finished in vegan synthetic leather, with heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear outer seats — handy for those cold winter mornings in the Perth Hills or down south in Margaret River country. It's a comfortable, practical cabin that should suit families well.

On the safety front, the MG S6 hasn't yet been crash tested in Australia, so there's no ANCAP rating to reference at this stage. That's a gap worth keeping in mind, particularly if safety ratings are a deciding factor for your family.
The warranty story is strong: MG covers the S6 with a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty as standard. Keep up with scheduled services at an MG dealer and that extends to 10 years or 250,000 kilometres — one of the better coverage packages in this segment and a real confidence booster for buyers wary of committing to a newer EV brand.
The Bottom Line for WA Buyers
The MG S6 makes a credible case for itself. The 530km range tackles WA's wide open distances, the drive-away pricing removes the guesswork at registration time, and the feature list is genuinely competitive. If you can live without an ANCAP rating for now and want an electric SUV without stretching to Tesla money, the S6 deserves a serious look. It's available in dealerships now.
