MG S6 EV Arrives in WA: Under $50K Drive-Away for a Mid-Size Electric SUV
MG's newest electric SUV takes on the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7 with a sub-$50K drive-away price.

MG has landed its S6 EV in Australian showrooms, and for WA buyers hunting a mid-size electric SUV without the Tesla price tag, it deserves a serious look. Starting under $50,000 drive-away, it undercuts the Tesla Model Y Premium RWD ($58,900 before on-roads) and the BYD Sealion 7 Premium ($54,990 before on-roads) by a meaningful margin — and in Perth's current cost-of-living climate, that gap matters.

What You're Getting for the Money
The S6 EV comes in one trim level — Essence — available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Both variants share a 77kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery and come loaded with features that matter for real-world WA driving: a heat pump (handy for those cold Wheatbelt mornings), battery pre-conditioning, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, and one-pedal drive mode.
The RWD produces a single electric motor setup, while the AWD adds a second motor up front for extra grunt — useful if you're venturing beyond the metro area onto gravel roads or heading up to the Pilbara. Boot space is a practical 581 litres with seats up and 1,690 litres with them folded, plus there's under-bonnet storage.

Standard kit across both variants includes a solid specification — MG traditionally loads its Essence trim well. Dover White solid and Stratford Gold metallic paint are included in the price, with additional colours available for $700. A Grey Ivory interior with faux Nordic Ashwood trim is a $500 option over the standard Dark interior with faux carbon-fibre trim.
The S6 EV sits above the smaller MG S5 EV (from $38,990 drive-away) and below the MG IM6 (from $60,990 drive-away), giving MG a cleaner lineup across different budgets.
Safety and Warranty: Solid on Paper
The S6 EV hasn't been through ANCAP testing yet, but its Euro NCAP equivalent awarded it five stars in 2025 — with adult occupant protection at 92%, child occupant protection at 85%, vulnerable road user protection at 84%, and safety assist at 78%. Those are respectable scores, not outliers, and the full suite of active safety tech comes standard.

The warranty story is one of MG's strongest cards: seven years, unlimited kilometres as standard, stretching to 10 years or 250,000km if you service within the MG dealer network. For WA buyers clocking up kilometres between Perth and regional centres, that unlimited-kilometre standard warranty is particularly relevant. Service pricing hasn't been announced yet, which is worth keeping an eye on before you sign anything.
Is It Worth Considering?
For Perth buyers who want a five-seat electric SUV without stretching to Tesla money, the MG S6 EV puts a genuinely competitive package on the table. The drive-away pricing removes the guesswork around on-road costs — no WA stamp duty surprises, no dealer delivery fees tacked on at the end. The platform is shared with the MG S5 EV and MG 4, which have both proven reliable in local conditions.

With WA fuel prices consistently among the highest in the country, the shift to electric makes financial sense for many suburban and regional drivers. The S6 EV gives you a larger, more practical option than the S5 EV at a price point that still leaves room in the budget. It's in showrooms now — worth getting behind the wheel before you decide.
