Denza Z9 S Sedan Revealed: A Smaller Option for WA Buyers?

Denza is on a roll in Australia, and Western Australian buyers paying attention to the brand's rapid expansion will want to know about the latest reveal from China: the Z9 S, a shorter, sleeker sedan sibling to the Z9 GT that's already locked in for Australian showrooms from July this year.

Denza Australia hasn't confirmed the Z9 S for our market yet, but it has said it considers all models for local sales. Given how quickly the brand has moved — launching here in 2025 with the B5 and B8 SUVs and already announcing the Z9 GT — it's not a stretch to think the Z9 S could follow.

What Is the Z9 S?

Designed by former Audi chief designer Wolfgang Egger — who now heads design for both Denza and parent company BYD — the Z9 S shares the same sharp design language as the Z9 GT but wraps it in a slightly more compact body. It measures 5090mm long with a 3025mm wheelbase, making it 105mm shorter than the Z9 GT. It sits on the same e3 platform.

Three battery-electric powertrains are listed in Chinese regulatory filings:

• **Entry-level single motor:** 320kW with a 102.326kWh Blade battery, up to 920km CLTC range
• **Mid-spec single motor:** 370kW with the same 102.326kWh battery, also rated at 920km CLTC
• **Flagship tri-motor:** An expected 890kW (1194hp) — actually more potent than the Z9 GT's already ferocious 850kW flagship

The Z9 S is rated at up to 780km of CLTC range in its top-spec form, while the single-motor variants claim 920km. For context, CLTC figures tend to be optimistic compared to real-world driving — especially if you're doing regular runs between Perth and Mandurah or heading up to the Pilbara — but even at a healthy discount, these numbers are strong.

What WA Buyers Should Know About the Z9 GT First

Before the Z9 S becomes a local reality, the Z9 GT is the one to watch. It's confirmed for WA showrooms between July and September 2025, with the electric wagon version landing first. The PHEV variant remains a possibility for later.

The Z9 GT's headline feature for Australian buyers is flash charging — a 10 to 97 per cent charge in as little as nine minutes. Denza is installing ultra-fast charging equipment at its dealerships before rolling it out more broadly. For Perth drivers, that's useful whether you're topping up near the CBD or preparing for a long haul north on the Great Northern Highway.

The Z9 GT uses a 122.496kWh Blade 2.0 battery and produces 850kW in flagship form, with a 0–100km/h time of 2.7 seconds. The Z9 S, if it arrives, would slot below that — offering a slightly more accessible entry point into Denza's flagship sedan range.

BYD's broader Australian momentum is hard to ignore right now: in June 2025, BYD came within 243 sales of knocking Toyota off the top spot — the closest any brand has come since Holden briefly outsold Toyota back in May 2011. Denza, as BYD's premium arm, is clearly riding that wave.
