Nismo Is Coming to Perth — Here's What GT-R Owners Need to Know

If you own a Skyline GT-R in Western Australia, this is the news you've been waiting for. Nismo — Nissan's factory performance arm — is expanding outside Japan for the first time, with Australia firmly in its sights. A Perth location is confirmed as part of the rollout, alongside centres in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Auckland.

The first cab off the rank is Nissan Ferntree Gully in Victoria, set to open in the second half of 2026. Perth follows as part of the next wave of expansion. These won't be your typical dealerships — Nismo Performance Centres will focus exclusively on the restoration, restomod, and parts supply for R32, R33, and R34 GT-R models, backed directly by the Omori Factory in Yokohama.

Why Perth Makes Sense

Australia accounts for roughly 36 per cent of all R34 GT-R exports and around 20 per cent of R33 GT-R exports as of 2026. That's an enormous concentration of these cars in one country, and a significant chunk of them are registered and driven right here in WA.

For Perth GT-R owners, getting factory-level support has historically meant sourcing parts internationally, relying on independent workshops with varying levels of expertise, or paying a premium to fly specialists across the country. The Nismo Performance Centre changes that equation directly.

"We need to make sure that we follow these cars so that those owners can keep them maintained, modified, and restored," said Nissan Australia aftersales director Michael Hill.

Nismo CEO Yutaka Sanada put it plainly: "Australia is a natural priority because of its mature performance culture, strong GT-R community and clear appetite for authentic Nismo heritage, performance parts, technical expertise and motorsport-driven experiences."

Hard to argue with that when you consider how many immaculate GT-Rs turn up at WA car meets on any given Sunday morning.

What the Nismo Heritage Parts Programme Actually Covers

This isn't just a branding exercise. Nismo has been actively remanufacturing parts for these historic models under its Heritage Parts scheme — including RB26 engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, and other components that have become genuinely difficult to source. For anyone who's spent time hunting down OEM parts for an ageing GT-R, the significance of that can't be overstated.

The Perth centre will give local owners direct access to that supply chain, along with the technical expertise to put those parts to proper use. Whether you're chasing a full nut-and-bolt restoration or a tasteful restomod, having factory-sanctioned support on the ground in WA is a completely different proposition to posting parts from Japan and hoping for the best.

On the broader Nismo model front, Australians currently only have access to the Nismo Z — featuring a power upgrade and suspension changes — while international markets enjoy five Nismo model variants. Whether the local Performance Centre network eventually helps unlock more Nismo models for Australian sale hasn't been confirmed. For now, the stated focus is squarely on supporting the heritage GT-R fleet.

What Perth GT-R Owners Should Do Now

A firm opening date for the Perth location hasn't been announced yet — further details are expected in the second half of 2025. Melbourne's Ferntree Gully store leads the way in H2 2026, with Perth to follow.

If you own an R32, R33, or R34 and you've been putting off restoration or maintenance work because of the hassle of sourcing proper support, it's worth getting your ducks in a row now. Document what your car needs, start a list of the parts and work required, and be ready to engage with the Perth centre when it opens.

For anyone currently in the market for a GT-R, this news only strengthens the case for buying one. Factory restoration support on Australian soil — including right here in Perth — removes one of the biggest practical barriers to owning and maintaining these cars long-term.
