Zeekr 7X Black Special Edition May Be Back — 600 Cars Sold Out Fast

If you missed out on the Zeekr 7X Black Special Edition, you might get another shot. Zeekr Australia is in serious talks about bringing the blacked-out variant back as a permanent fixture in the 7X line-up — and if the demand signals are anything to go by, it won't hang around long if it does return.

What Sold Out, and Why It Matters

The Black Special Edition launched at $75,900 plus on-road costs — $3,000 above the Performance AWD variant it was built on. For that premium, buyers got black badges, black exterior trim, black paint as standard, and 20-inch black wheels swapped in for the standard 21-inch machined-finish alloys. Subtle changes, but clearly the right ones.

The initial run was capped at 600 cars nationally, and according to Zeekr Australia's head of digital, Andrew Stamatakis, they were gone "near-instantly". That's not marketing spin — 600 units selling out quickly on a $75K-plus EV is a meaningful result in any market, let alone one where buyers are still weighing up whether Chinese electric brands are worth the commitment.

"Our customer feedback has been incredible so far, so we are constantly talking to the factory," Stamatakis said.

Zeekr reported a record 973 deliveries of the 7X in April 2026 alone — out of 1,006 total sales across the brand that month. The 7X is clearly carrying the weight of Zeekr's Australian operation.

Where WA Buyers Fit Into This

For Perth drivers, the 7X Performance AWD — the base for the Black Edition — is a genuinely compelling proposition. It's a practical, well-specced electric SUV that handles the suburban sprawl between the northern and southern suburbs without drama, and its range figures are realistic enough for runs down to Mandurah or up to Joondalup without anxiety.

The blacked-out aesthetic also plays well in WA. Black and Forest Green are emerging as the two most popular colours in the 7X range nationally, which lines up with what we see on WA roads — buyers here tend to gravitate toward darker, cleaner finishes over flashy options.

On the cost side, WA buyers do need to factor in on-road costs carefully. The $75,900 drive-away conversation is a different one once you add WA stamp duty and registration. That said, WA's Electric Vehicle Incentive Scheme has helped reduce upfront costs for eligible buyers, and lower fuel spend matters in a state where people genuinely drive long distances regularly — whether that's a Pilbara work roster or a weekend run to the South West.

Should You Wait, or Move on the Standard Model?

If you're set on the black aesthetic, the standard Performance AWD in black paint is available now and saves you $3,000. The Black Special Edition's upgrades are cosmetic — there's no performance difference. For most buyers, that's an easy call.

But if the full blacked-out package matters to you — the badges, the trim, the specific wheel finish — it's worth keeping an eye on Zeekr's local announcements. Stamatakis confirmed discussions with the factory are active: "We're talking to the factory to understand what sort of supply we could get if we wanted to make it permanent."

No timeline has been confirmed, and availability will depend on what Zeekr's factory can commit to. Given how quickly the first batch moved, don't expect a long window to decide if it does come back.
